Telecel Ghana, a prominent telecommunications provider, has launched a data refund initiative in response to the recent nationwide network disruptions experienced on Thursday, March 14. The disruptions, which impacted connectivity across the country, prompted Telecel Ghana to take swift action in restoring its services and addressing customer concerns.
In an official statement released by Telecel Ghana, the company announced the successful restoration of 100 percent of its internet capacity, signaling a significant milestone in overcoming the recent network challenges. The statement also expressed gratitude to customers for their patience and understanding during this period of inconvenience.
“We are pleased to inform our cherished customers that we have secured 100% of our internet capacity, and services are being restored,” the statement read. “We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period. Please be assured that our team has started work on refunds of expired bundles and related issues.”
This proactive measure by Telecel Ghana reflects the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction and underscores the importance of maintaining reliable telecommunications services in the face of unforeseen disruptions.
In a related development, Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, provided insights into the efforts underway to address the connectivity challenges facing the country. During an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight programme, Ashigbey highlighted the steps being taken by telecommunications service providers to secure alternative network capacities.
“As we talked about a minimum of five weeks to fix those cables, the telecom service providers and then the undersea cable [service providers] would be looking to bring capacity from other sources into the country,” Ashigbey explained. “And so once they’re able to bring adequate capacity to meet what you actually had before the [cable cuts], then you’d have provided the connectivity back to what it was.”
Ashigbey emphasized the importance of sourcing network capacity from alternative sources while repair works on the damaged cables are ongoing. He reassured the public that telecommunications service providers are actively working to restore connectivity to pre-disruption levels.
The launch of Telecel Ghana’s data refund program and the concerted efforts by telecommunications stakeholders to address network challenges demonstrate a collective commitment to ensuring uninterrupted communication services for all Ghanaians. As the restoration efforts continue, customers can expect improved connectivity and enhanced reliability in the telecommunications sector.
