Ghanaian music sensation Gyakie has recently unveiled the emotional backstory behind her latest single, “December.” In an exclusive interview with TV3’s Berla Mundi and Naa Ashokor on the New Day show, the award-winning artist shared the deeply personal inspiration behind the heartfelt ballad.

The song, characterized by its poignant lyrics and soulful melody, was born out of Gyakie’s own experience of heartbreak. She revealed that the tumultuous emotions she endured during a challenging period in her love life served as the foundation for “December.” Speaking candidly about her creative process, Gyakie expressed how she channeled her feelings of disappointment and sadness into crafting the song.

“It is fully broken heart. It’s actually one of the songs I wrote when I was in one of my sad moments, and I wrote it in Paris,” Gyakie disclosed during the interview. “Every word in the song is literally direct. A special someone disappointed me… the story of the song is in the lyrics of the song. When you read the lyrics, you will understand what I mean more.”

The transparency with which Gyakie shares her personal experiences adds depth and authenticity to her music, resonating with audiences on a profound level. By drawing from her own struggles with heartbreak, she creates a connection with listeners who have experienced similar emotions, fostering a sense of empathy and understanding.

Despite the deeply personal nature of “December,” Gyakie’s decision to share her vulnerability through her music is a testament to her artistry and resilience. She bravely confronts her pain, transforming it into a powerful and relatable piece of art that speaks to the universal human experience of love and loss.

Interestingly, Gyakie revealed that “December” was originally intended for release during the festive season of the previous year. However, she chose to delay its release in favor of her hit song “Rent free,” allowing audiences to fully appreciate each track before unveiling another musical gem.

Produced by Blaise Keys and Leroy Menace, “December” showcases Gyakie’s unique blend of soulful vocals and emotive songwriting. Its release on April 5, 2024, marks a significant moment in Gyakie’s musical journey, as she continues to captivate audiences with her heartfelt melodies and authentic storytelling.
