King Paluta, the current New Artiste of the Year at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), has voiced strong opinions about the potential relocation of the Grammy Awards to Africa. The Ghanaian artist believes that such a move could undermine the prestige of the awards and negatively impact the opportunities available to African musicians.
In a recent interview with Accra-based United Television, the ‘Aseda’ hitmaker argued that the current setup, where African artists travel to international locations to receive Grammys, significantly boosts their visibility and appeal to major music labels. According to Paluta, the journey abroad to accept such accolades is a vital aspect of the award’s prestige.
Paluta expressed concerns that holding the Grammy Awards in Africa might lead to a decreased presence of influential music executives at the event. This, he suggests, would diminish the chances for African artists to capture the attention of key industry figures who could propel their careers forward.

“They should keep the awards where they are because anything that the white man decides to bring to Africa loses its value. We want to travel abroad to receive the awards. That is a symbol of prestige, and that is what we desire,” he stated in Twi during the interview.
The artist further elaborated that the absence of major music executives at an African-hosted Grammy event could hinder the exposure and recognition that artists desperately seek. He underscored his ambition to win a Grammy and attract the interest of influential record labels like Sony Music, expressing doubts about achieving these goals if the Grammys were to be held on the African continent.
