Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall star, Stonebwoy, has voiced his concern over Ghana’s potential exclusion from the Grammys Africa initiative. The initiative, designed to extend the Grammy Awards’ reach into Africa, promises substantial benefits and economic opportunities for the creative industries of participating countries.
Stonebwoy, recently honored as Artiste of the Year at the 25th TGMA, took to Twitter to question why Ghana has yet to secure a position as a founding member of Grammys Africa. He acknowledged the efforts of individuals like Dentaa Amoateng in advocating for Ghana’s inclusion but lamented the country’s failure to gather the necessary funds to finalize the service agreement.
The artist highlighted the successful participation of other African nations such as Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Africa, all of which have managed to secure their founding memberships. Stonebwoy urged the Ghanaian government to explore various avenues, including private sector support, to raise the required funds.

“The expansion of the Grammys into Africa is akin to their expansion into the Latin world with the Latin Grammys,” Stonebwoy noted. “These institutions, including the Grammys, BET, GMAs, and MVAs, are crucial in shaping global narratives about music, arts, and entertainment. Aligning with them offers significant growth and economic potential for Ghana’s creative industry.”
Stonebwoy’s call to action underscored the urgency of the situation, posing critical questions to the government: “Why not Ghana? Can the government not raise the money? Can the government seek private sector assistance? Is it not important for Ghana to be part of this?”he questioned.
