Kwaku Osei Koranteng Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, is once again stirring up controversy in the entertainment world. The well-known critic and event organizer has boldly claimed credit for the recent success of Ghanaian artiste King Paluta’s song “Makoma.”
During an appearance on Asempa FM’s ‘Asempa Showbiz Review’ program, KOKA asserted that his sharp criticism of the song was a major factor in its skyrocketing popularity. Despite initially labeling King Paluta’s singing voice as “useless,” a comment that sparked significant backlash, KOKA insists that his controversial remarks brought the song much-needed attention.
“I’m not saying radio stations shouldn’t play his songs. In fact, someone called me to say, ‘Thank you because you are the reason I listened to this song,’” KOKA shared. “Before our conversation, he had around 800 hits, but now he’s over a million. Check his streams on digital platforms; they have doubled.”

KOKA’s initial criticism may have been harsh, but he believes it played a crucial role in increasing the song’s visibility. According to him, the controversy surrounding his comments led to a surge in “Makoma’s” views and streams, pushing it to over a million listens on various platforms.
In a recent radio interview, KOKA doubled down on his claim, saying, “I was the one who made it happen. It was because of what I said that people paid attention to his songs. Tell me, who has had a conversation without playing the song? Because of the dislike for me, people are playing the song even more. If someone hating me will help this boy grow in the space and mature, then I welcome it.”
A video circulating on social media captures KOKA acknowledging that his choice of words was inappropriate, but he emphasized that his intention was to ensure the long-term success of Ghanaian artists like King Paluta. Despite the initial backlash, KOKA stands by his assertion that his critique was instrumental in making “Makoma” a hit song.
KOKA’s bold claims have certainly reignited discussions within the entertainment industry, highlighting the complex relationship between criticism and success in the music world. Whether or not his assertions are entirely accurate, there is no denying that “Makoma” has become a sensation, with KOKA’s comments playing a significant role in its journey to the top.
