Socialite Efia Odo has publicly apologized to acclaimed Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy for her derogatory remarks during the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
The incident occurred in May 2024 when Efia Odo, a fervent supporter of King Promise, made headlines by calling Stonebwoy “old” and suggesting he should step aside for younger artists like King Promise, whom she believed deserved the Artiste of the Year award.
Efia Odo’s comments ignited a firestorm on social media, drawing criticism from many who felt she disrespected Stonebwoy’s contributions to the music industry.
In a heartfelt appearance on the July 27, 2024 edition of ‘United Showbiz,’ Efia Odo admitted her mistake and expressed regret over her words. Speaking to the show’s host, MzGee, she explained that her comments stemmed from her deep admiration for King Promise and her desire to see him recognized.

“In the moment, for me, when I’m a fan of someone, I go hard for the person. What I said to Stonebwoy, calling him an old man and all that was wrong. I admit it,” Efia Odo said.
She went on to acknowledge Stonebwoy’s immense contributions to Ghanaian music, ranking him among the top artists in the country. Efia Odo clarified that her intention was not to belittle Stonebwoy but to highlight that he deserves recognition beyond local awards.
“What I wanted to really say is that I see you to be bigger than Ghana Music Awards. I see you to be bigger than the platforms they’re giving you,” she explained.
Taking full responsibility for her actions, Efia Odo apologized for allowing her emotions to cloud her judgment and vowed to be more considerate in the future. Her public apology was met with a mixed response, with some applauding her for owning up to her mistake and others remaining critical.
Stonebwoy has yet to publicly respond to Efia Odo’s apology.
