Popular Ghanaian artist Fancy Gadam has revealed that he received a mere GH₵102 in royalties from the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO).

The artist took to his WhatsApp status to express his disbelief and frustration, posting:

“GHAMRO, the nonsense you people are doing we will not take it anymore. How can you send me 102 cedis… drop your momo number, I am sending it back to you .”

Fancy Gadam’s post has sparked a heated discussion about the fairness and transparency of the royalty distribution system in Ghana. Many musicians depend on royalties as a significant source of income, and the low payment received by such a well-known artist raises serious questions about how royalties are calculated and distributed.

After receiving just 102 Ghana cedis from GHAMRO, Fancy Gadam labeled the organization as “wicked leaders.” GHAMRO, established under section 49 of the Copyright Law, Act 690 of 2005, is responsible for collecting royalties on behalf of music copyright holders in Ghana.

GHAMRO has, over the years, faced criticism from many Ghanaian creatives, including Shatta Wale, Kofi B, Akosua Adjepong, and many others, for its handling of royalty distributions. Recently, the music duo Keche also voiced their dissatisfaction, noting they have not received more than 500 cedis despite their success. This ongoing issue highlights growing concerns about the organization’s effectiveness in supporting artists.

As this debate continues, the music community eagerly awaits a response from GHAMRO and hopes for a resolution that ensures fair and transparent royalty distribution for all artists.
