Popular social media influencer and former Miss Malaika contestant Gisela Amponsah opened up about her deeply troubled relationship with her father.
During a recent appearance on the “Rants, Bants, and Confessions” podcast, Gisela shocked listeners when she admitted to feeling no love for her father and even proudly disrespects him.
When asked by fellow panellist Efia Odo about her relationship with her father, Gisela did not hold back. “I don’t even want to talk about that man because I don’t want to give him the clout,” she began. “I have never rated him. I’m very disrespectful towards my dad, and I am not even going to shy away from it.”
Gisela shared that her feelings stem from a long history of negative experiences with her father. According to her, he has shown little interest in her life and has always treated her with indifference, a stark contrast to his relationship with her brother.
“I remember when I got into the University of Ghana, Legon, I was excited to share the news with him,” Gisela recalled. “But when I called, he asked me why I was even bothering to tell him. That hurt me deeply. My dad hates me; he despises me. He doesn’t even know my age or anything about my life.”
She went on to explain that her father’s neglect has left her with lasting emotional scars, leading to trust issues and a diminished sense of self-worth. Despite being his eldest child, Gisela said she has always felt like an outsider in her own family.
“He is cool with my brother. He talks to him, sends him money, and my brother even lives with him. But for me, it’s like I don’t exist,” she said with evident pain in her voice.
Gisela’s story is a stark reminder of the complex and often painful dynamics that can exist within families, particularly between parents and children. Her willingness to speak openly about her struggles reflects the courage it takes to confront difficult emotions, even when it means challenging deeply ingrained societal norms about family loyalty and respect.
