The National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has publicly refuted allegations made by popular YouTuber Kwadwo Sheldon regarding the party’s recent town hall meeting at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Sheldon had claimed that he was invited by the NDC to the event under the condition that he would ask pre-approved questions to the party’s flagbearer, a claim that has sparked significant controversy.

In a tweet posted on August 13, Sheldon stated that the NDC approached him to attend the town hall meeting, but on the condition that the questions he would ask were predetermined by the party.

Sheldon further asserted that he declined the invitation, insisting that he would only participate if he could ask his own questions. When the party did not agree to this, he chose to spend his time playing video games instead.

This claim quickly gained attention, leading to public debate about the integrity of the event and the alleged involvement of influencers in shaping its narrative. In response, George Opare Addo released a video on X (formerly Twitter) addressing Sheldon’s allegations directly.

Opare Addo clarified that while the NDC did extend invitations to bloggers and social media influencers, these were specifically for coverage of the party’s Youth manifesto launch at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) auditorium, not for the town hall meeting at Bukom. He categorically denied that Sheldon was invited to the Bukom event or given any questions to ask.

“We wanted all bloggers and influencers to come and cover the Youth manifesto launch, to use their platforms to reach a wider audience,” Opare Addo explained. “Kwadwo Sheldon’s invitation was solely for the UPSA program. He was not invited to the Bukom town hall meeting, and no one from our party instructed him to ask any specific questions.”

Opare Addo challenged Kwadwo Sheldon to present any evidence of an invitation to the town hall meeting, asserting that the YouTuber’s claims were unfounded. He also dismissed the notion that the NDC had scripted questions for the influencers who attended the Bukom event.

The Youth Organizer’s rebuttal aims to put to rest the speculation surrounding the NDC’s engagement with influencers, emphasizing that the party sought only to broaden the coverage of its Youth manifesto launch, not to control the narrative at the town hall meeting.

The controversy underscores the increasingly complex relationship between political parties and social media influencers in shaping public discourse.
