Ghanaian comedian and actor Dr. Likee, known offstage as Ebenezer Akwasi Antwi, has opened up about a painful chapter in his life, where his financial instability cost him a cherished relationship.

In an emotional interview with ZionFelix, the beloved content creator shared how his then-girlfriend left him during the early days of his career because he couldn’t provide for her.

Dr. Likee recalled the challenges he faced as a rising star in the entertainment industry, struggling to make ends meet while trying to build his career. He described the frustration of returning home empty-handed after long days on set, only to face complaints from his partner about his inability to support her financially.

“In those days, things were tough. You’d go on set hoping for something, but you’d come back with nothing, and the complaints would start,” Dr. Likee revealed. “She eventually left because I had nothing to offer her.”

The comedian reflected on the pressures that come with financial hardship in relationships, noting that these challenges often push couples apart.

He pointed out that while women may be drawn to financial security, the men they leave behind often find success after the breakup. He referenced the late South African reggae legend, Lucky Dube, who experienced a similar situation, suggesting that the end of a relationship due to financial issues can sometimes be the turning point for a man’s success.

“When a woman leaves you because of money, that’s when your breakthrough comes. It happened to Lucky Dube, and it happened to me,” Dr. Likee said. “Once she left, things started getting better for me.”

Dr. Likee also touched on the unique difficulties celebrities face in maintaining relationships, particularly when financial instability is involved. He emphasized the need for spiritual support to navigate these challenges, implying that success often follows after overcoming such trials.

His candid reflection serves as a reminder of the personal struggles many face in their pursuit of success and the impact these challenges can have on relationships. Despite the heartbreak, Dr. Likee’s story is one of resilience and eventual triumph, showing that even in the darkest moments, better days can lie ahead.
