Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has opened up about why she gave up singing, citing a past relationship where she faced harsh criticism from her ex-partner.
Jolie, who received acclaim for her role in ‘Maria’—a biopic about opera singer Maria Callas that premiered at the Venice Film Festival—shared that she once had musical aspirations.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress reflected on how negative comments from her former partner about her singing abilities deeply affected her confidence. Despite her theater school training, she internalized the criticism and stopped singing altogether.
“I don’t sing anymore,” Jolie revealed. “I had someone in my life who wasn’t kind about my singing, and I just accepted their opinion. It’s strange because I’d been trained, but it really impacted me.”
Jolie’s candid admission highlights the lasting effects of emotional criticism, even for someone as accomplished as she is.
