Ahead of the 2024 elections in Ghana, renowned singer and songwriter Akwaboah has taken a firm stand on not composing songs for political parties, a common practice among some of his colleagues in the music industry.
Speaking in a recent interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay FM, the ‘Posti Me’ hitmaker shared his thoughts on navigating the complex relationship between politics and music.
Akwaboah revealed that while he respects the choice of other musicians to create campaign songs, he has no intention of following the same path. His reason? He does not want to be politically tagged or associated with any political party, a concern he expressed during the interview.
However, the versatile musician made it clear that he is not entirely shutting the door on working with political parties. Akwaboah explained that he would be open to performing at political events if invited, viewing it as strictly a business arrangement rather than a show of political support.
According to him, performing for political parties is no different from taking on any other business opportunity—it’s simply about delivering a service.

Akwaboah also highlighted that, instead of composing campaign songs that might polarize the public, he would rather focus his talents on creating songs that unite Ghanaian.
He emphasized his preference for producing music that promotes peace, love, and unity, which are essential during a politically charged period like elections. In his view, if a song doesn’t contribute to national harmony or help the country in a meaningful way, he would not be involved.
