Nigerian music star Simisola Kosoko, known popularly as Simi, has urged parents to focus on raising independent daughters who are not overly reliant on others, especially in terms of finances.
In a recent video on her TikTok account, Simi stressed the importance of teaching girls self-sufficiency. She cautioned against promoting the idea that women should rely on someone else to provide for them.
“Don’t teach your daughters that their goal in life is to depend on others… Being pampered should be a choice, not a necessity because you can’t provide for yourself,” Simi stated.
She underlined the significance of financial independence in fostering confidence and stability for women, highlighting that every woman should be capable of taking care of her own needs.
“There’s a sense of security when you know you can support yourself… A woman’s financial strength lies in her ability to stand on her own, protect herself, and recognize her own value,” Simi said.

Reflecting on her upbringing, Simi acknowledged the advantages she enjoyed, including encouragement and support, but also noted that many women lack such privileges.
She urged society to create opportunities for capable women, saying, “If you have the power to offer a deserving woman a chance to succeed, don’t hesitate to do so.”
