Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has clarified his stance on a controversial post from his X (formerly Twitter) account that referred to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama as a “drunkard.” The post, which was deleted shortly after it was published, sparked public outrage and even led to death threats against the actor.

In an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, Prince categorically denied making the comment and explained the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to him, the post was likely written by one of his cousins or friends who had access to his social media account during that period.

“After the election results were announced, I decided to step away from social media because of the intense trolling and bullying. I wasn’t using my phone at all and left it with my cousins or friends to handle,” Prince said.

The actor, who had publicly congratulated the NDC and President-Elect Mahama shortly after the election, said he was shocked to find out about the post. “I woke up to see tags and screenshots of something allegedly from my account.

When I checked, the post wasn’t there, but it was circulating everywhere. I questioned those handling my account, but they denied making it,” he explained.

Although he insists he didn’t write the post, Prince said he took full responsibility because it came from his page. “As the account owner, I felt it was important to apologize, even though I didn’t write the comment.

It’s unfortunate, but I had to do the right thing to de-escalate the situation,” he added.

Prince emphasized that the insult did not reflect his views and expressed his utmost respect for President-Elect Mahama.

“This incident has been a major lesson for me about who I trust with my social media accounts. It’s a mistake I won’t repeat,” he concluded.

The controversy has highlighted the risks of sharing account access and the responsibility public figures bear for content published on their platforms.
