Ghanaian gospel musician and pastor, Ps. Edwin Dadson, has encouraged his colleagues to focus on the spiritual impact of their music rather than chasing awards and popularity.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio, the This Far by Grace singer stressed that while awards are a form of recognition, the true purpose of gospel music is to glorify God and transform lives.

“If we keep following the popularity of music, we will lose the essence and quality. Our landscape of music bothers me. I don’t mind who wins an award, but I want to be proud to say that this person can really sing and challenges me to sing,” he stated.

His remarks were in response to the introduction of the Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song category in the 2025 Telecel Ghana Gospel Music Awards (TGMA). While the initiative has been welcomed by gospel artists such as Kingzkid, Scott Evans, and KobbySalm, Ps. Dadson cautioned that recognition should not overshadow the mission of gospel music.

“It’s up to them to really rise up to the task, and again, it shouldn’t be about awards; it should be about posterity and legacy. So, if I get an award, what’s next?” he questioned.

His message serves as a call to gospel musicians to remain committed to their spiritual purpose, ensuring that their music continues to uplift, inspire, and draw people closer to God.
