Renowned Ghanaian musician and radio host Blakk Rasta has urged artists to focus on building strong brands rather than splurging on luxury items like expensive cars and mansions.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, he emphasized that true branding goes beyond material possessions and is essential for an artist’s long-term success. He encouraged musicians to channel their earnings into refining their craft, enhancing stage performances, and creating a lasting impact in the industry.

> “Branding isn’t just about flashy cars and big houses; it’s about your career and how you position yourself globally. Invest in your craft,” he advised.

Blakk Rasta cited celebrated gospel artist Sonnie Badu as an example of someone who has successfully built a solid brand. According to him, Badu’s commitment to quality shows, stage presence, and audience engagement has helped him command significant influence both locally and internationally.

However, he expressed concerns about some Ghanaian artists not paying enough attention to their branding, pointing out dancehall star Stonebwoy’s stage performances as an area that could use more investment. He noted that improving stagecraft, visuals, and production would significantly enhance the artist’s appeal and marketability.

Blakk Rasta’s comments come amid an ongoing dispute between Stonebwoy’s management and UK-based event organizers, Akwaaba UK. The disagreement stems from allegations that Akwaaba UK attempted to sabotage Stonebwoy’s UK tour, a claim the event organizers have denied.

As the Ghanaian music industry grows, branding and strategic investment in one’s career remain crucial. Will Blakk Rasta’s advice push more artists to prioritize long-term brand development over short-term luxury?
