The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced the confirmation of two additional Mpox cases, raising the total number of infections in the country to four.

In a press release dated Sunday, May 18, 2025, the GHS revealed that the new cases were detected in the Greater Accra and Western Regions, with one case recorded in each. This follows an earlier update on May 15, when the first two cases were reported.

Health officials say the recent cases do not appear to have any connection with the previously reported ones, indicating separate sources of exposure. Laboratory tests carried out by the National Public Health and Reference Laboratory confirmed the diagnosis.

Regional health authorities have since rolled out targeted public health interventions, including contact tracing, isolation protocols, and community sensitization campaigns.

Mpox, a contagious viral disease, spreads through close contact with infected persons, animals, or contaminated items. Infected individuals typically show symptoms such as fever, body rashes, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and muscle pain.

The GHS has reiterated the importance of public cooperation in preventing further transmission. It also urged media organizations and influencers to support nationwide awareness efforts by sharing verified information and safety guidelines.

The Ministry of Health assures the public that surveillance systems remain active and that measures are in place to contain any potential outbreaks.
