Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay says relentless online trolling nearly made her quit music.

On the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Shopsydoo, the RuffTown Records artist called herself “the most bullied musician in Ghana.” She says much of the hate came from comparisons to the late Ebony Reigns, whom fans felt she was copying.

“At one point, my mum told me to stop music and move back to Germany,” Wendy recalled. “The trolling was so bad it even embarrassed some of my relatives.”

The attacks went far beyond criticism. “They’d edit my face to look old and mock me,” she said. “They said I had no talent. It was brutal. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy—but it made me stronger.”

Wendy stayed because of a small circle of supporters—friends and fans who believed in her. Their faith paid off. Today she’s one of Ghana’s top female stars, with awards from the 3Music Awards and Telecel Ghana Music Awards to her name.

Her latest single, It’s Too Late, is climbing charts at home and abroad. Wendy’s journey from ridicule to recognition shows how resilience and self-belief can turn pain into power.
