Award-winning Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale believes his influence goes far beyond entertainment, claiming his music has played a critical role in reducing youth involvement in crime.
In a recent Facebook post, the outspoken artist stated that his journey from the streets to stardom has become a source of hope for many struggling young people across the country. He noted that through his songs, lifestyle, and open conversations about hustling and success, he has inspired thousands to choose legal means of survival over crime.
“Most of these boys look up to me, not because I’m perfect, but because they see my struggle and how I made it without violence or stealing,” Shatta Wale wrote.
The On God hitmaker said his message resonates particularly with youth in underprivileged communities, where crime is often seen as a way out. By showing them another route, he believes he has helped shift mindsets.
He added that, unlike many celebrities who distance themselves from “street life” after fame, he remains closely connected to his roots—and that connection has allowed him to influence lives in a way no institution can.
“I’m not the government or the police, but I’ve done more to change some of these boys than many of those in power,” he added.
