Ghanaian actress and media personality Akuapem Poloo, known for her controversial rise in the entertainment scene, has shared a surprising detail about how she started earning recognition and income in the industry.
Speaking on Joy Prime, the outspoken actress, born Rosemond Alade Brown, revealed that musician Fameye once paid her GH₵5,000 to twerk in one of his music videos — a gig that marked a turning point in her career.
According to Poloo, she had been struggling for attention for years despite her presence in the industry. Frustrated by the lack of recognition, she adopted a more daring approach — using shock value and controversy to get noticed.
“I wasn’t getting gigs, I wasn’t getting called. So I started doing things that would catch people’s attention — even if it meant being insulted. I just wanted to be seen,” she said.
Her strategy, though criticized, began to yield results. She started receiving calls for endorsements, interviews, and paid appearances. Among those who reached out was Fameye, who hired her specifically for a twerking role in his music video.
“Fameye gave me GH₵5,000 to twerk in his video. It wasn’t just him — other artistes also started contacting me to dance in their projects,” she revealed.
Poloo admitted that her tactics were risky and often frowned upon, but insists they helped her carve out a space for herself in the competitive entertainment industry.
“In this game, if you’re not bold, you’ll be ignored. I took risks, and they paid off,” she added.
Today, Akuapem Poloo has grown beyond her controversial beginnings. She now enjoys a more stable career with brand deals, interviews, and a strong social media presence — proof, she says, that sometimes unorthodox paths can lead to success.
