The Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area, Damongowura Seidu Kelly I, has placed a ban on the sale of Chichinga, also known as kebab, in Damongo township in a bid to curb the growing incidents of goats and sheep theft in the Savannah regional capital.

‎The decision comes after a recent surge in livestock theft, with some stolen animals reportedly sold to butchers and food vendors in the area.

‎In a recent incident, two brothers, Gafaru and Mohammed, along with an accomplice, Nnabaali, allegedly stole and slaughtered a sheep belonging to a local resident. The suspects were caught with a freshly slaughtered sheep, and an angry mob nearly lynched them before the Ghana Police Service intervened.

‎The suspects reportedly confessed to selling stolen animals to a well-known butcher, Achiiba, who has since fled and remains at large.

Residents are calling for swift investigations and justice to serve as a deterrent to potential thieves.
