‎Ghanaian reggae icon and three-time Grammy nominee Rocky Dawuni has described receiving a diplomatic passport from the government of Ghana as one of the most humbling moments of his career.

‎The presentation, which came as a surprise during a ceremony, left the singer both emotional and reflective.

‎“When they mentioned my name, I was shocked. I didn’t expect it at all. But at the same time, I felt honoured. For me, music has never been about awards or accolades. It’s always been a calling—a gift from God. Being able to share it at the highest level is the real blessing, and everything else is an add-on,” Dawuni shared in an interview on Hitz FM.

‎Widely admired for blending reggae, Afrobeat, and traditional Ghanaian sounds, Dawuni has built a career that goes far beyond entertainment. His artistry has long carried the mission of elevating Ghana and Africa’s image on the global stage.

‎ “I have always believed my talent should serve my country, my continent, and my people. To have the foreign minister personally acknowledge that with this passport means I can now officially do what I’ve always done—represent Ghana,” he added.

‎The diplomatic passport, often reserved for high-ranking officials, recognizes Dawuni’s role as a cultural ambassador. For decades, he has performed at international festivals, worked with the United Nations, and advocated for global issues such as climate action and social justice.

‎To him, the gesture formalizes a responsibility he had already embraced:

‎ “I’ve been carrying Ghana’s name with pride all over the world for years. Now, it feels like my country has officially placed that mantle on my shoulders. I’m grateful and deeply honoured.”
