Ghanaian music legend Samini is speaking up about the state of the country’s music institutions — and he’s not holding back.

In a recent interview on Hitz FM, the multiple award-winning dancehall star said the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) has massive potential but needs the right leadership to truly make a difference in the lives of musicians.

“I like when young people are given the chance to take offices like that. GHAMRO is a special place that needs the right heads to actually manage it. Those who are there are doing their best, but we still have a long way to go,” Samini stated.

The “Linda” hitmaker acknowledged the efforts of the current administrators but insisted that visionary and committed leaders are crucial if GHAMRO is to live up to its purpose of protecting and rewarding musicians.

When asked whether he’d personally consider taking up a leadership role at GHAMRO or MUSIGA, Samini didn’t rule it out.

“You never say never. As we grow, we develop ourselves to make ourselves fit for call-ups as and when. So, if the time comes and I’m called and I think I’m available, we’ll see. Any opportunity to help shape our industry is a blessing,” he said.

According to him, leadership in Ghana’s creative industry should be built on competence, service, and passion — values he believes will help the country’s music institutions thrive both locally and internationally.

Samini’s remarks have once again stirred conversation among industry players and fans who believe it’s time for a serious overhaul of how the country’s music bodies are managed.
