This Christmas might just get more exciting for rural Ghana as the Director–General of NADMO, Major Dr. Joseph Kunyo, has made a bold appeal to Ghana’s top entertainers:

“Send some of your big holiday shows to the rural areas!”

According to him, many communities outside the major cities hardly experience high-profile entertainment events. With fewer recreational activities and limited job options, young people in those areas often fall into idleness — and sometimes end up being influenced into trouble.

Dr. Kunyo believes music and creative programs can change that.

“When the youth are actively engaged, they are less likely to be drawn into negative activities,” he explained.

He mentioned heavyweights like Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Black Sherif, KiDi, and Kuami Eugene, urging them to consider taking concerts, festivals, and creative outreach projects to smaller communities this festive season.

He says such events don’t just bring fun — they promote peace, reduce crime, and make rural residents feel connected to the national entertainment scene.

Beyond entertainment, these events boost the local economy. From food sellers and carpenters to transport operators and decorators, entire towns benefit when a major show pops up on their grounds.

Dr. Kunyo also noted that spreading events across regions will help reduce congestion in major cities, where overcrowding during big concerts often leads to traffic chaos — and, in some cases, disasters.

The appeal came during a visit from the Defence Press Corps, who were there to strengthen ties with NADMO. Their Dean, Joseph Armstrong Gold-Alorgbey, praised the organisation’s strong performance this year — especially early flood-prevention measures in Accra.

He, however, called for better communication between the media and some district-level NADMO offices to help keep the public informed during emergencies.

The meeting ended with a warm gesture: the Corps honoured Dr. Kunyo with a citation, and he returned the goodwill with a commemorative plaque.
