Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has candidly discussed the reasons behind her 2019 divorce from fellow actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole. In a revealing teaser for the latest episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, Jegede shed light on the challenges that led to the dissolution of their marriage
One of the primary factors Jegede cited for ending her marriage was the financial burden she had to shoulder. She explained that she found herself in the position of being the primary financial provider for her family, a role that became increasingly difficult to sustain. “I was bringing more of the money. I’m taking care of my son like nobody exists around me. It’s not easy,” Jegede stated.
The imbalance in financial contributions put a significant strain on their relationship, ultimately leading to Jegede’s decision to leave. Her reflections on this experience highlight a common issue in many relationships where financial disparities can lead to tensions and dissatisfaction.
Jegede also mentioned that the eight-year age difference between her and Fawole contributed to frequent misunderstandings. She noted that her ex-husband was often sensitive about their age gap, interpreting her casual remarks as disrespectful. “He is eight years older than me. But the moment we got married, if I tell him, ‘You dey crease,’ he would say I’m disrespecting him,” she revealed.
