Ghanaian rapper D Cryme has finally opened up about the real reason behind his silence in the music scene — he was quietly building a transport business while fans assumed he had gone missing.
In an interview with MX24, D Cryme addressed the misconception that artistes are inactive when they are not constantly seen on TV or radio. He noted that many people equate visibility with productivity, overlooking the work creatives do off-camera.
“Every serious project takes time. If you want real accomplishment, you must devote yourself to it,” he said, explaining that stepping back from the spotlight often makes it seem as though musicians have stopped working.
He added that many artistes invest their energy into other ventures when they go quiet.
“Anyone who’s silent is definitely doing something productive. Some are into real estate, others into agriculture. Not everything needs to be shown on camera,” he explained.
For him, that quiet period was spent in the transport sector.
“I was into the transport business, but you don’t put cameras on that. Fans expect music, but sometimes you’re managing other businesses. That’s when people say you’ve gone quiet,” he revealed.
D Cryme also highlighted how demanding today’s music industry has become. With more planning, resources, and clearance needed before releasing a single track, the gap between songs is often longer than fans expect.
“We’re always working in the studio, but now the process before a record comes out takes much longer,” he said.
The rapper encouraged fans to be patient with their favourite artistes, explaining that quality music now requires more time and effort.
“Listeners should understand us. The vetting and approval process takes time, and that’s why some artistes may not be heard from as often,” he added.
