On Saturday, June 22, 2024, Ghanaian media personality Halik Musah, popularly known as DJ Tell or Adugali, was arrested by the Ghana Police Service. The arrest follows defamation allegations leveled against him by celebrated musician Fancy Gadam.
Fancy Gadam broke the news of the arrest on his official Facebook page. He stated, “Halik Musah (DJ Tell) has officially been picked up by the Ghana Police Service in the early hours of today after making defamatory comments about me. If you don’t know how to use the media space, the law will teach you how to. I want to use this opportunity to thank the Ghana police service for the swift action. SEE YOU IN COURT ❗️❗️❗️”
The allegations against DJ Tell stem from recent comments he made accusing Fancy Gadam of engaging in ritualistic practices to gain wealth and fame. DJ Tell referred to past tragic incidents involving Fancy Gadam’s entourage and performances to support his claims.
One significant incident occurred in June 2018 when a vehicle in Fancy Gadam’s convoy lost control and collided with another vehicle while en route to welcome Nigerian star Patoranking for a concert at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale. The accident resulted in eight fatalities, including two staff members of the entertainment company Zylofon, and multiple injuries. This tragedy led to the concert’s cancellation and a subsequent ban on events at the stadium by Ghanaian authorities. Fancy Gadam expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, sharing his grief with fans on social media.
Another tragic incident cited by DJ Tell was a stampede during Fancy Gadam’s performance at a community center in Asawase, Kumasi, in July 2016. The stampede reportedly resulted in the deaths of nine people. DJ Tell suggested that these recurrent tragedies were not mere accidents but deliberate acts for ritualistic purposes.
During his radio show on Radio Tamale on June 20, 2024, DJ Tell recounted the story of Jeff, a bereaved father from Tamale, whose child died in one of these tragic incidents. According to DJ Tell, Jeff continues to mourn his loss and feels abandoned by Fancy Gadam, who has allegedly ignored their calls for support post-funeral. “These instances are not normal,” DJ Tell asserted. “He used those people for rituals.”
