Ghanaian media personality and DJ, Andy Dosty, has stirred conversation with his recent comparison between Ghanaian rap heavyweight Sarkodie and American hip-hop icon Lil Wayne.
Speaking on Hitz FM on Thursday, September 12, 2024, Andy Dosty boldly stated that Sarkodie surpasses Lil Wayne when it comes to live stage performances.
While acknowledging Lil Wayne as one of his all-time favorite rappers, Andy argued that the American rapper falls short in terms of stage presence and energy during live shows, especially when compared to Sarkodie. “Lil Wayne is a phenomenal rapper and musician,” Andy noted, “but when it comes to performing live on stage, Sarkodie does it better.”
Andy shared his personal experience attending a Lil Wayne concert in the U.S., which left him unimpressed. “I love Lil Wayne as an artist, but his live show didn’t move me. I remember being disappointed when I saw him perform. There wasn’t much to see,” he revealed. Andy added that even with the help of experienced directors, he feels that Lil Wayne still wouldn’t deliver the same level of energy as Sarkodie.
Touching on Lil Wayne being overlooked for the 2025 NFL Super Bowl halftime show in favor of Kendrick Lamar, Andy suggested that the decision may have been justified, explaining, “If Lil Wayne had been on that stage, it wouldn’t have had the same impact. Artists like Usher, Rihanna, and Michael Jackson—those are performers who know how to captivate an audience.”
Andy’s remarks have sparked debate among fans of both artists, with many weighing in on the comparison of two of the world’s most celebrated rappers.
While Lil Wayne is widely known for his lyrical prowess, Andy insists that Sarkodie’s stage presence and performance energy place him in a league of his own when it comes to live shows.
