Ghanaian actress and businesswoman Fella Makafui has opened up about one of the most intense and emotional experiences of her life — the birth of her daughter via Caesarean section — revealing she remained fully awake throughout the entire procedure.
In a revealing conversation with Pulse Ghana, the YOLO star recounted how medical complications led to the decision for an emergency C-section after doctors found that her baby wasn’t in the correct position for a natural delivery.
“I was awake the whole time,” Fella shared. “There were two doctors, one on each side. I could feel movement inside me, like they were pushing and pulling, but there was no pain — just pressure. They kept asking if I was okay.”
One of the most unforgettable moments came when she accidentally glanced into a mirror positioned nearby. “I turned to my left and saw a mirror. I could see my stomach — it was open. That sight scared me so much, I started panicking. It was terrifying and emotional,” she said.
Despite the fear and trauma, relief and joy followed swiftly after. “A few minutes later, I heard my baby cry. I broke down in tears. When they brought Island to me, it was overwhelming. Her father was supposed to be inside but he was too nervous, so they rushed the baby out to him instead.”
Fella also opened up about the struggles she faced during pregnancy, describing the first trimester as extremely challenging. “I was very sick for the first three months. I lost weight, had no appetite, and was even coughing up blood. I never wanted a C-section, but at that point, I had no choice.”
Her brave testimony shines a light on the strength of mothers and the unpredictable nature of childbirth, reminding the world that every birth story — whether through natural delivery or surgery — is valid, powerful, and worth telling.
