The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially removed former Finance Minister, Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, from its wanted list after he confirmed his voluntary return to Ghana.

This decision comes after a period of uncertainty surrounding his location and involvement in an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption.

In an announcement on February 18, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng stated that Ofori-Atta, who was declared a fugitive on February 12, had committed to returning to the country for questioning. The OSP had previously listed him as wanted due to his failure to specify a return date despite being required to appear for investigations related to corruption allegations.

According to the OSP, Ofori-Atta’s legal team formally informed the office of his planned return, leading to a reassessment of his status. Consequently, his scheduled appearance before the OSP has been adjusted to coincide with his confirmed arrival.

“Mr. Ofori-Atta is no longer considered a fugitive and has been removed from the OSP’s list of wanted persons, contingent upon his return as agreed,” the statement read.

However, the OSP cautioned that if Ofori-Atta fails to return as scheduled or does not appear for questioning, he will be reinstated on the wanted list, and legal measures will be taken to ensure his compliance.

“If Mr. Ofori-Atta fails to voluntarily return to the jurisdiction around his stated date, or fails to appear at the OSP on the rescheduled date, he will be re-listed as a wanted person. In such an event, the OSP will take all necessary legal steps to secure his return and ensure his attendance at the OSP,” the statement warned.

This development marks a crucial point in the investigation as Ofori-Atta’s cooperation could shape the direction of the probe. All eyes will now be on his anticipated return and his subsequent engagement with the OSP.
