Ghanaian singer Mr Drew has challenged the popular notion that only danceable songs become hits in today’s music industry.According to him, the quality of a song is far more important than its rhythm or beat when it comes to achieving success.
Speaking in an interview on Property FM with Amansan Krakye, the ‘Mood’ hitmaker argued that a song must first and foremost be a good composition before it can capture listeners’ attention — regardless of whether it’s accompanied by dance moves or not.
“I don’t agree with the idea that danceable songs are the only ones that can blow up,” Mr Drew stated. “If the song itself is not good, how can people even enjoy dancing to it?”

He highlighted Fameye’s popular track ‘Very Soon’ as a clear example of a non-dance song that still made waves across the country. “Fameye didn’t promote that song with any dance challenge, yet it became one of the biggest songs last year,” he noted.
Mr Drew stressed that while dance trends may enhance a song’s reach, they should not be seen as the primary reason for a song’s success. “A good song always finds its way to the people. Once the content is solid, everything else will naturally fall into place,” he concluded.
His remarks serve as a reminder to young artists that strong lyrics, melody, and emotion are just as powerful—if not more—than a catchy beat.
